Herman Cain, Businessman

When Herman Cain took over as president and CEO of Godfather's Pizza, the company was financially troubled, and he turned it around to profitability within twelve months. At age thirty-four, he was vice-president at Pillsbury. Then he resigned his position and entered the restaurant business. He began by broiling hamburgers at Burger King.

He believes in living in God's truth, and he attributes his success to three factors: (1) focus, (2) follow-through, and (3) faith.

Of focus, he says, "First you must define your goal. Just saying, 'I want to be successful' is not a goal, but I want to earn a master's degree' is. To be focused, define your goal."

Of follow-through, Herman explains, "Take life one day at a time, and take your career one step at a time. As long as you're making progress toward your goals, that's fine. It's better to make steady solid progress than to suddenly catapult to the top."

And of his faith? "My secret is my belief in Christ and almighty God--and They are no secret! I have to give God the glory in everything I do and in every success I've achieved. It's not that I am so great, but that God has blessed me so much."
